The thrift gods sent me a new clock radio!

And not just any clock radio - the exact General Electric "wake to music" AM alarm clock radio that I have been stalking online for several months now. I never pulled the trigger and actually bought one, because the little voice in my head kept saying, you will find one out at the sales - just be patient... It paid off, because I found one at an estate sale for the big big price of $3.00!

My parents had a very similar one next to their bed when I was a kid - I have fond memories of listening to it, especially the show Desperate and Dateless on Friday nights. Does anyone remember that show? I remember thinking it was hilarious, and that it was just a tiny bit scandalous for a little kid to be listening to it...

Anyway, my new radio works like a dream, and I couldn't be happier. The only bad thing seems to be that there are only two AM stations that come through clearly - so this morning I was jerked awake by the voice of Rush Limbaugh... If that won't get you to roll over and turn the alarm off I don't know what will! ;)

** Linking up with Apron Thrift Girl's Thrift Share Monday - if I can figure out how to do it! hehe

The World's Largest Vintage Table Lamp - It's Mine!

My dad's auctioneer friend had an auction last week and I went a little nuts bidding. It was a wonderland of kitsch and craziness that I just couldn't resist! I won't even bother to sing the blues to you all about the great stuff I lost, because I managed to come away with enough goodness to make me quite the happy camper... It is all getting listed for sale of course (look for a post on that stuff this weekend!) except for this:

It is the world's largest vintage table lamp. No, really - the thing is a full 60" (5 feet!) tall from the bottom to the top of the shade. The body is ceramic, and there is a glass globe that the shade sits on. (The shade itself measures a whopping 19" across and 25" tall!) I wish I could have gotten a better photo of it, but the light in my office is terrible - hence my decision to bid on the world's largest table lamp. It does help quite a bit - and it has a 3-way switch so if I don't want it full on I can tone it down a bit.

The only thing I can think is that it was designed to sit on one of those low to the ground mid-century end tables. I don't think it was meant to be a floor lamp - I mean it looks like a table lamp in every other regard, except for its ridiculous size. Whatever the deal is, it doesn't really matter - I'm in love and I declare it an $11.00 well spent! :)

Vintage Thoth Tarot Card Deck By Aleister Crowley On eBay Now!

I was browsing the bookshelves at an estate sale a week or so ago, and noticed this little white box nestled among some paperback books. Lucky for me I decided to pull it out and see what it was - turns out it was a fairly rare vintage OTO Thoth tarot card deck designed by none other than Aleister Crowley!

Researching it proved a challenge, as there seems to be some confusion about the publication dates on these older decks... The best I could pin down is it could be from as early as 1969, or from sometime in the 70's. The cards are in excellent condition and the artwork (by artist Frieda Harris) is gorgeous. If you are into this kind of thing head on over and check it out - it's one of those things you just don't find every day! :)

New On Etsy - Pin-Up Girls & More!

Hey everyone, first off I have to say that I'm sorry I haven't been posting very often lately... I've been neglecting all of my blogs, not just this one, so please don't feel particularly insulted - it's not you, it's me, I swear! ;) My job schedule has changed so I am getting used to that, and also I've just not really felt like posting - does that ever to happen to anyone else? I guess when you blog for YEARS your enthusiasm for it is bound to dip at least sometimes...

But, I'm here now, and I have some really fun stuff to share with you that I've listed on Etsy recently... My favorites are the great 1960s pin-up girls I scored - I've never seen any quite like them before! All of them are covered with a plastic sheet that says Lift Here in the bottom right hand corner. The girls' clothes and other accessories are printed on the plastic. When you lift up the plastic, the girls are nude underneath - clever!

There is one of the girls that makes me kind of go Hmmmm.... It's the hair (wig?) - I can't decide what the deal is with it... What do you all think? Just a VERY poor styling choice? Maybe the new guy was in that day or something?

I did list some less risque things as well - including a lot of 1940s Flower Bouquet prints by Jean-Louis Prevost. They are SO pretty, very hard to part with!

Also new to the shop are some star constellation charts I rescued from an old astronomy textbook from 1946 - really cool and I love the blue background on them!

Stay tuned, I am really trying to tackle the backlog of paper I have waiting to be listed on Etsy - I tend to shop like there are 3 of me to list stuff! ;)
