Vintage 80's Clothing Revisited

A couple of years ago I did a fairly snarky post about clothing from the 1980's - and it has turned out to be one of my most visited posts on the blog. I haven't tooled around eBay looking at 80's clothes lately, so I figured it might be time to re-visit the subject and see what the sellers have going on now.

By the way, in the comments of my last post, several people stepped up to defend the sellers I featured. It was not my intention to make fun of the sellers - they are obviously doing a great job marketing to a demographic that loves what they sell. That being said, the clothes are still hilarious, and I defend my right to make fun of them :)

Nothing says class like a sequined Leopard shirt dress. Is it just me or is this more suitable for Tuesday night at the Bingo hall than a night out on the town? Click the link under the photo to check out the listing - I can't believe what it is already going for, with 7 days left on the auction!

Jumpsuits - how did any of these manage to survive? I would think if I was cleaning out my closet, the jumpsuits would have been the first thing to go. Right in the trash... *shudder* Of course it has a bid - it must be that awesome abstract neon print...

Choice #1 if you want to look like a Poison hair band groupie.
Check out that asking price - yowza!!

Neon pink nightmare. It's hurting me just to look at it. Moving on...

I'm really at a loss for words on this one. A gold metallic suit? Really?

OK, enough bad 80's stuff, it's killing me. Let's try to be fair and look at some 80's stuff that I actually kind of like...

I probably like these because they don't scream 80's, so they probably shouldn't count,
but OH MY aren't they great?!?

Now this I would ROCK. Check out the Ankh earring! :)

This I really like - it has an 80s vibe to it, but is thankfully missing god-awful shoulder pads.
Love the shape and the color - two thumbs up!

I love this skirt AND I love the Mighty Mouse tank top!

And so ends another 80's clothing post... :)

  1. Love this post! It brings back lots of memories, some good, some bad. These fashions are so iconic. I loved Norma Kamali, still do.

  2. Oh man, I am so in agreement with you! I sold a few eighties items when I first started on Etsy but then I said "enough!" I just cannot do it. I left those clothes, that hair those earrings back then and I truthfully never want to see them again even if someone pays me! (That Norma Kamali is beautiful though!)

  5. I am with you on this. Yes they are desirable to SOME people, not me. I sell some but I certainly do not focus on it. What gets me is the 90s stuff now...REALLY?? 90s?? Now that, I refuse!

  6. Yes! Thank you. 80's fashion has become very big amongst the young hipster crowd and all I can say is...its still bad. It was bad then, its bad now. Having said that, I'll be the first to rock an off the shoulder sweatshirt (Flashdance was one of my favorite movies in middle school) AND I recently posted a black spandex unitard with stirrups and it literally flew out of my shop in a matter of days. What's a vintage girl to do?

  7. Man I miss the 80's!! thank goodness for retro clothing!
Found an awesome shop that does some great 80's clothes in shoreditch, they mainly do more vintage (30's-50's) but they also have some great original 80's wear too... www.lafrock.com

  8. Absolutely love your blog! You would be surprised at what girls want to buy online as far as vintage. I personally love some of the kischy things, but they're not for everyone. Would love for you to take a look at my vintage store on etsy and see if you like it!

  10. Scrolling through Pinterest looking at 80s patterns and I come across the one romper... eleven wears that same romper in stranger things three which came out on July 4 2019... I find that quite hilarious

  11. The romper is not from the 80’s it’s a version of the romper that eleven wears in stranger things three episodes 2 and 3.

  12. They must have styled Eleven's romper after this vintage one, I wrote this post in 2011 and Stranger Things didn't start until 2016 :)
