These spreads are highly collectible, and they come in a wide variety of colors, styles and patterns. I was so excited to find a couple catalog pages on Wish Book Web featuring Chenille spreads!
Look at these original prices!! Unreal... From Sears, 1942 (click to enlarge):
From Spiegel, 1942 (again, click to enlarge - you gotta see the detail!):
Of course I had to poke around eBay and see the others that are currently up for sale. I was shocked there were so many! Most of them have a very cottage chic type of vibe, like this beauty:
Others are much more, to put it delicately... um... wild. Yeah, that works. I think my favorites are those featuring peacocks - not for the faint of heart! Check out this over the top gem:
I also fell in love with this really unique hearts pattern - it's like a valentine made of fabric!
Ahhh, if only I had a few guest bedrooms to decorate...
These are great. They look like elaborate wedding cakes. Did you see the pink satin and chenille one on ebay? Delicious! Nice alternative to the more expensive vintage quilts. I'll definitely price these out on my next bedroom redo, though I can't really stomach the saccharine pastels. I'm always on a quest for a affordable vintage bedding in dark color schemes- - not so easy!
ReplyDeleteI have always loved them, and your examples are simply gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteSome absolutely beautiful bedspreads there!
ReplyDeleteI found a pink and white chenille one recently at the Salvation Army, but it's not quite as elaborate as those.
I think because people are crafting with them (making stuffed animals, etc) they're getting harder to find.
Yeah I should post some of the adorable stuffed animals I saw... too cute!!
ReplyDeleteI have one from grandma that has a peacock on it!
ReplyDeletewow I never found one that nice!!! I had a few and sold a few!!!
ReplyDeleteare you keeping it or selling?
yummy chenille! I want!
ReplyDeleteI love the peacock ones! I was going to buy one of ebay a while back but ended up getting a red velvet 60s Hawaiian print spread! Oh and of course you can vote to "leave the car the same". I hope people participate, I'm giving the contest till June 27th.
ReplyDeletewow I love the secod last one!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, I need to go check out your ebay auctions...I love vintage stuff!
