Vintage Marshall Field Christmas Catalog Super Score!

At the estate sale I went to last weekend there were a TON of books - I mean seriously, it was a sight to behold. Besides the bazillion vintage cookbooks I came home with (that's a whole other post on its own) I found a box full of vintage Marshall Field Christmas catalogs! Most are from the 60's, though there are a few from the late 50's and 70's thrown in there too, and most are still in the envelope they were mailed in... It amazes me what people keep sometimes - but thank goodness they do it!

I wish I had time to scan all the pages in, they are chock full of great stuff! But, no time, so I just scanned in a few representative examples... Only two of the catalogs are for kids, the others are full of grown up gifts like clothing, jewelry and housewares. A total drool fest... OK, I guess I'll just shut up and show you! At auction on eBay this week - jewelry, jewelry, jewelry!

I took advantage of the eBay half off auction listing fee sale this week to get a huge chunk of my "waiting to be listed" costume jewelry up - there is no way I can show them all off here, but I can pick a few of my favorites... If you want to see it all just click on over, and if you want something be sure to bid, what doesn't sell will be listed for (usually) a higher price in my Etsy store later! :)

New goodness on eBay this week!

We listed TONS of stuff I really love this week - so I apologize in advance if this post runs a little long! :)

I actually did a bit of experimenting, taking into consideration the 10 cent Fixed Price listing fee sale, and the coming changes to eBay stores... Rather than listing all of my items at auction first, I chose some to list straight to Fixed Price instead, and then listed the rest at auction like normal. We'll see how it goes!

Featured Collectible - Vinegar Valentines or Penny Dreadfuls

Oh yes, the beautiful, sappy, make you *swoon* Valentine's cards are nice, but my heart of hearts truly belongs to the mischievous vintage Valentines known as Vinegar Valentines or Penny Dreadfuls. Apparently they first started to become popular in the late 1800's, and remained so through the first part of the 20th century, and were often sent anonymously to poke fun at certain types of annoying people.

Luckily there are still some great examples floating around out there - the 19th century ones are a bit more expensive than the 20th century ones of course, but they are all pretty reasonable considering their age and the delicate nature of old paper...
